We have previously reported on the Government's responce to the Senate stormwater Inquiry. This response can be downloaded here.
Over the Christmas break we surveyed State Committee members on how they thought we should engage with this reponse. The feedback supported adopting a national advocacy positon and we are actively considering how this should be implemented.
One opportunity is through the regular triennial assessment of the National Water Initiative (NWI) that is being managed through the Productivity Commission. Stormwater Australia will be providing a response to the PC's issues paper (released in March 2017). Feedback on the issues paper is sought by the 18th April 2017, with further consultation to occur later in the year.
While it was pleasing to see that many of the Senate recommendations were adopted (either in part or in principle) there remains a lot of hard work to translate these into tangible outcomes. The review of the NWI provides a framework to consider the full range of existing and emerging policy initiatives that would be relevant to Australian stormwater management into the future.
